The Best Security Cameras Without a Subscription
Most camera brands push cloud plans, but several record to a microSD card or a home base for free. Here’s what you actually get without paying monthly.

How this page was made: this is a research-based guide built from manufacturer spec pages, official prices and published lab measurements from the outlets we name and link. We have not tested these products ourselves, and we don't invent scores. Our methodology.
“No subscription” means different things at different brands. Some cameras record and play back clips locally with all core features included; others work without a plan but hold back features such as video clips in notifications or smart detection. We checked each manufacturer’s product and plan pages in October 2026 and note what you lose without a plan. We haven’t installed these cameras ourselves.
Local storage keeps footage off a company’s servers, but if a thief takes the camera (or the microSD card inside it), the footage can go too. A home base kept out of sight, or an optional cloud backup, reduces that risk.
